Introduction

The Library & Information Literacy Skills Points of Collaboration were written to assist classroom teachers and school library media specialists as they work together to meet the New York State Learning standards as well as the American Association of School Librarians Information Literacy Standards for Student Learning.  The collaboration of teachers and library media specialist in information-based learning will result in students who are successful consumers and producers of information.

In this document, New York State Learning Standard Performance Indicators are linked with the Leatherstocking K-12 Library & Information Skills Scope & Sequence through our Points of Collaboration.  They are organized by Learning Standard at each level (Elementary, Intermediate, and Commencement). They are designed to kindle collaborative learning experiences in the areas identified as being appropriate for information-based leaning experiences.  The possibilities are extensive.  This project hopes to give teachers a starting point for developing more different types of learning experience for their students by working with their School Library Media Specialist.

We hope that this Points of Collaboration will be the means to link classroom teachers from their target Performance Indicators to the School Library Media Program at appropriate junctures to teach content at the same time as library and information literacy skills through information-based learning.
