The goal of this project is to provide a short-term Alternative Education placement for general education students ages 11-14 to meet their academic, social and emotional needs while ensuring a successful transition back to their home school district. All students are selected through the individual districts' assessment team that evaluates students to determine the most appropriate program or services. The Middle School Transition Coordinator communicates with the home school district on a regular basis supporting the connection between the student and the home district.
The foundations of the program include a strong academic focus on literacy and mathematics, integrated strategies for social and emotional growth, as well as an opportunity to practice academics and behavioral strategies that will work in the home school environment. The program provides smaller classes allowing for a smaller student-teacher ratio.
All students attend the Middle School Program for a full day. Seventh and eighth grade students attend the Middle School Alternative Program for a full day. Parent support and involvement is strongly encouraged.
