• A Message from the Teacher Center Director 

    NYS Teacher Centers are the largest professional learning communities in NYS wth more than 125 Teacher Centers across the state serving 675 public school districts.  Teacher Centers support student achievement through professional development that provides educators with knowledge and skills.

    The Midstate Teacher Center of MOBOCES provides professional development based on local needs as well as NYS regulations under Section 316 of education law. 

    In accordance with the NYS Teacher Center Standards, Common Core Standards, and the Mid State Teacher’s Center philosophy, the center will focus on the initiatives that are designed to meet the professional development needs of the school districts that we serve as determined by a teacher center needs assessment/evaluation that is supported by the Madison Oneida BOCES Division of Instruction and Curriculum. 

    Focus for 2016-2017 will include the following areas:

    • Continue to support teachers and administrators in the continuation of Professional Learning Communities of instruction to enhance teacher ELA knowledge and Math knowledge with the NYS P-12 Learning Standards

    • Continue collaboration with institutions of higher education to promote enhanced teacher and leader pre-service preparation as cited with Utica College, Reflections Seminar and the EDTPA.

    • Support with Colgate University , Picker Art Gallery , VTS program that will enhance teacher knowledge in the area of Art Education that will provide educators the strategies/skills for  adjusting instruction to meet the learning needs of all students

    • Continue to support and train teachers on the  practice and implementation of Math and Movement program under the direction and guidance of the TC Director, MO BOCES Math Facilitator as well as the appointed teacher facilitators for each school district

    • Continue to support the professional development for the Mentoring Program located at MOBOCES

    • Continue to provide direct training and support for school districts on the Poverty Simulation

    • Support the request for consultation on the  topic of Poverty in the classroom as will be presented by Eric Jensen this summer

    • Support the professional development for teachers seeking National Board Certification in order to enhance student achievement

    • Continue to support professional development consultants to address topics such as  literacy and brain development
