    Our Community Spirit

We all know how generous our MOBOCES staff is, and there’s no time like the holiday season to highlight some of the community efforts going on around campus.

    • Alternative Education staff adopted six students’ families for Thanksgiving and donated full turkey dinners to them, in addition to other food they could use throughout the long weekend.

    • The Administration Building staff is collecting food, toiletries and clothing for students in need in both the Alternative/Special Education and CTE divisions.

    • Special Programs staff at both J.D. George and VVS Middle School prepared and served a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to their students.

    • Culinary Arts students spent a morning working at the Rome Rescue Mission to help the center prepare for its community Thanksgiving dinner.

    • Rome ACCESS Site staff brought in their own gently used winter clothes and gear and allowed adult learners at their site to browse for items for their families. RAS staff also prepared and served a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to their adult students.

    • Throughout the fall, a group from MORIC has engaged in fitness challenges and used those challenges as opportunities to donate to area charities. In all, the group has donated food to Alternative Education’s pantry, supplies to Wanderer’s Rest animal shelter, and more than $250 to the Hispanic Foundation.

    • When Katie Duell, from MORIC’s Data Team, retired this fall, she asked that her colleagues donate to the campus food pantry that provides food to students in lieu of a retirement gift.

Know about another act of kindness on campus? Email news@moboces.org and it will be added to the list!

    50th Anniversary Update

MOBOCES is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and we'll be celebrating this milestone all year. In the fall, we hosted two major anniversary events - a Chamber of Commerce reception for business leaders from the Rome and Oneida chambers, and an alumni breakfast for graduates of our CTE programs. We'll have additional events coming up in the winter and spring. We also have a mini-section on the website about MOBOCES history and the new logo. Stay tuned for more updates, and follow us on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with our #moboces50 campaign.
