Advanced Health Science will prepare students for a dynamic career in Nursing through rigorous classroom instruction and a variety of hands-on experiences in local health care facilities. Expectations include good attendance, professional behavior, strong work ethic, and successful and timely completion of assignments and activities. The demanding curriculum includes medical terminology, leadership development, research projects, and diverse patient interactions. Students will prepared for, and able to take, the Kaplan Nursing Student Preadmission Test, which is part of the admissions process for the BOCES Adult Practical Nursing Program and several area RN programs. Post-secondary Nursing programs typically require applicants to have successfully completed, at minimum, 3 years of high school math and science courses, including Regents level chemistry, before being considered for acceptance.

Academic achievement, attendance, projects, clinical hours at local hospitals and nursing homes, and volunteer hours are strong components of the program. Completion of Regents Chemistry is essential for entrance into college programs, along with strong academic and study skills. College credit opportunities are available to students who pass a college placement exam.
