HRC Completes Explores Diversity

Juniors in the CTE Health Related Careers program completed a hands-on learning lesson in cultural diversity, team building, and self-reflection.

Students were asked to create a visual representation sharing “unseen” parts of themselves. The activity and resulting portraits helped spark a conversation among the class about similarities, differences, acceptance of others, social emotional needs and creating a positive school climate.

Instructor Tara Roher took the students’ artwork and turned it into a bulletin board celebrating the activity and the students, and students had an opportunity last week to complete a “gallery walk” to look at the drawings and post positive comments on others’ work.

"The better our students get to know each other and build those bonds, a better learning environment is created,” she said.
