Madison-Oneida BOCES in Verona, NY, is looking for a full-time experienced Grant Writing Specialist to work with school district leaders and internal program leaders to identify, research, plan and secure grant funding for programs and initiatives that support strategic goals. This position will report to the Director of Communications and the Deputy Superintendent.
Our ideal candidates will be able to:
- Demonstrate excellence in grants management through high-quality writing, precision in planning and budgeting, and an understanding of the organization’s mission and culture.
- Work with BOCES and component district staff to identify funding needs.
- Perform prospect research on potential foundation and government sources of funding to support BOCES and/or component district programs.
- Seek and secure support and grant funding for existing programs and new initiatives.
- Prepare well-organized, compelling grant proposals that follow the requirements of the funder, including writing narratives and budgets, completing forms, and packaging.
- Examine and analyze community demographic data, programmatic best practices, and relevant legislation/regulations in support of grant proposals.
- Coordinate with senior leadership and appropriate program staff on timetables, meetings, and collection of needed data/supplemental documentation for grant applications.
- Track grant applications submitted and funding status.
- Maintain calendar of funding deadlines, including proposals, reports and renewals.
- Update and maintain organization registrations with government grant portals (SAM, Grants.gov, NYS Grants Gateway) and submit electronic grant applications.
- Provide technical assistance to business office and program staff in administering grant-funded projects.
- Complete additional special projects and assignments.
What you bring to our team:
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in grant writing, marketing communications, public policy, public administration or a related field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical, detail-oriented writing and editing and the ability to craft a persuasive proposal in a variety of program areas
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to manage relationships, work as a team, and effectively communicate with program staff, grantors, and other funders
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to work independently and manage multiple tight deadlines simultaneously

Salary Range: $63,000 to $70,000, depending on qualifications
Subject to Oneida County Civil Service requirements and exam.
