Career Exploration NEW
Career Exploration is a program for 9th and 10th grade students with disabilities. This course provides challenging, developmentally-appropriate career preparation experiences designed to meet each student’s individualized educational plan. While exploring career interests, students will begin to understand and develop the necessary skills to become a vocational-ready learner through on-campus work-based learning experiences, guest speakers and tours of local businesses.
Placement in this program requires a recommendation from the student’s home district Committee on Special Education (CSE). This class meets on the main Verona campus.
What Students Learn – Year 1
Ninth grade students have an opportunity to explore career pathways in areas such as:
- Landscaping
- Culinary/Hospitality Skills
- Woodworking & Tools
- Natural Resources
- Animal Science
- Human Services
- Transportation Systems
- Personal Finance
- Retail
- Social & Soft Skills
What Students Learn – Year 2
Tenth grade students have an opportunity to explore career pathways in areas such as:
- Groundskeeping
- Advanced Culinary/Hospitality Skills
- Intro to Construction Trades
- Maintaining Natural Resources
- Animal Systems
- Advanced Human Services
- Transportation Operations
- Personal Finance
- Entrepreneurship
- Social & Employability Skills
How Students Learn
Students gain hands-on learning experiences and industry skills through:
- Classroom instruction
- Tool and safety training
- Project-based learning
- Work-based learning opportunities
- Site tours
- Collaborations with other CTE classes
Course Credits
Students enrolled in VTP can earn 3 Units of CTE credit each year, as well as work-based learning hours required for the CDOS credential.
