Criminal Justice

Criminal Justice prepares students for careers in law enforcement, legal and social services fields through a combination of classroom work and hands-on experiences, including leadership development and exposure to police academy training. Students leave the program with a basic understanding of police operations, including fingerprinting, handcuffing, criminal tactical training and self defense. 

This class meets on the main Verona campus and daily transportation is available. Students will need their own transportation to community service events and work-based learning experiences that occur off-campus during evenings and on weekends.

The Criminal Justice program helps students develop a comprehensive understanding of the field through the study of:

  • Traffic, Penal, Constitutional and Case Law
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Court Structure
  • Probation, Parole and Corrections
  • Organized Crime
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Blood Splatter Science
  • Social Services

How Students Learn

Students gain hands-on learning experiences and industry skills through:

  • Classroom instruction
  • On-campus work experience (traffic control, campus tours)
  • Working with local police agencies to provide crowd and traffic control at local events
  • Community service work

 

Students are expected to wear their uniform, hat and appropriate footwear as directed by their teachers.

Course Credits

Upon completion of this two-year program, students will earn a total of 7.5 integrated high school credits:

  • 3 Units of CTE
  • 1 Unit each of English 12, Math 11, and Science 11
  • 1 Unit of Government & Economics
  • .5 Unit of Career & Financial Management
