Outdoor Power Equipment

Outdoor Power Equipment prepares students for careers in mechanical and welding services, including maintaining and repairing a variety of small engine vehicles and equipment. The program emphasizes the value of problem-solving skills and provides opportunities for students to work on live jobs for customers to gain real-world experiences. Students may complete an internship with a local business at the end of their senior year.

 

This program is based on the main Verona campus. 

 

What Students Learn 

The Outdoor Power Equipment program helps students develop a comprehensive understanding of the field through the study of:

  • Engine Theory and Operation
  • Diagnosis and Repair
  • Drive/Transmission Systems
  • Lawn and Garden Equipment
  • Carburetion
  • Welding
  • Engine Rebuilding
  • Electricity
  • Snowmobiles, Motorcycles and All-Terrain Vehicles

How Students Learn

Students gain hands-on learning experiences and industry skills through:

  • Classroom instruction
  • Work in classrom lab/shop
  • Internships and work-based learning

 

Students must wear the class work uniform and leather work boots.

This program prepares students for potential careers that include:

  • Agricultural Mechanic
  • Recreational Vehicle Repair Technician

Course Credits

Upon completion of this two-year program, students will earn a total of 7.5 integrated high school credits:

  • 3 Units of CTE
  • 1 Unit each of English 12, Math 11, and Science 11
  • 1 Unit of Government & Economics
  • .5 Unit of Career & Financial Management
