P-TECH

The MOBOCES Pathways in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) program is a five-year educational partnership with the Rome City School District, made possible by a NYS P-Tech Grant. The program begins in 9th grade and offers a a curriculum that integrates academic, STEM, and CTE instruction, emphasizing career exploration and pathways to multiple career fields.

Students who complete the program will earn a NYS Regents high school diploma and an AAS degree from Mohawk Valley Community College in either Computer Science: Cybersecurity or Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (Drones).

Program Progression

Grades 9 & 10: Integrated instruction across disciplines at Rome Free Academy, with a strong focus on ELA & Math. Work-based learning (WBL) experiences, college exploration and dual credit courses begin in 9th grade.

Grades 11 & 12: Students split their time between RFA & MVCC, with PTECH instruction provided by MVCC instructors. The program culminates in a work readiness assessment and an industry-recognized credential, with students also taking college courses aligned with their degree goals and engaging in increasingly sophisticated WBL and project-based STEM learning.

If necessary, PTECH students will accrue the remaining college credits necessary at MVCC after high school graduation or in Year 13/Program Year 5.
