Public Information Officer
Madison-Oneida BOCES in Verona, NY, is looking for an experienced Public Information Officer to work with school district leaders to support public messaging, internal communications and community relations needs. This position will report to the Director of Communications and work directly with superintendents and administrators in local school districts.
Our ideal candidates will be able to:
- Plan, write and edit content for websites, newsletters, emails, news media and reports, and proofread others’ writing and publications, conducting research as needed to ensure work is complete and accurate.
- Write in a style and voice appropriate for each school district, messaging platform and audience.
- Advise school leaders on current and upcoming issues, media coverage, public messaging, executive communications, and community relations strategies.
- Coordinate with news media and district staff on coverage of district news.
- Complete basic content creation work, including taking photos, developing social media posts and presentation materials, and graphically representing content to aid public understanding.
- Additional duties as assigned.
What you bring to our team:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, public affairs or a closely related field
- Experience working in the communications field
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write in a client-facing setting, to submit clean, concise and thoughtful copy on deadline, and to research topics to develop content
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to manage relationships, work in a team, advise senior leadership, and effectively communicate with stakeholders
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple tight deadlines simultaneously

Location of Position: Madison-Oneida BOCES and component districts
Term of Employment: Full-time position, 12-month schedule
Salary: $73,000 - $75,000, depending on qualifications.
Subject to Oneida County Civil Service requirements.
Starting Date: Immediately
