Two Student Clubs Cited for Excellence
Two of our CTE extracurricular programs earned recognition this year in external awards programs for chapter excellence.
NTHS
The MOBOCES chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) earned a 2024 Foundational Chapter Award from the national NTHS organization. The designation is part of the new three-tier Chapter Awards Program launched this spring by NTHS. The Foundational Chapter Award is the first level, recognizing chapters for excellence in student engagement and overall promotion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in their schools and communities.
MOBOCES is one of 16 NTHS chapters that earned a Foundational Chapter Award in this inaugural year, and it is the only chapter from New York to earn any of the three levels of recognition!
Since 2021, the chapter has made concerted efforts to raise awareness among CTE students of NTHS membership, steadily increasing the size of its induction classes each year. Both the 2023 and 2024 classes set records for the number of students and number of CTE programs represented.
The 2024 class, with 146 inductees from 11 high schools, included at least one student from each of our 23 CTE programs for the first time.
SkillsUSA
Our SkillsUSA chapter earned its first-ever Quality Chapter distinction! The recognition was presented during the NYS SkillsUSA Championships in Syracuse in April, where 15 CTE students from MOBOCES competed in contests demonstrating their technical and workplace skills.
Quality Chapter is the first status level in SkillsUSA’s Chapter Excellence Program, recognizing chapters for their programming, budgeting, organization and alignment with national standards, including community service work. Securing this status allows chapters to work toward two higher levels in the future.
In the 2023-24 school year, the chapter has 68 members who actively participate.
