Emergencies Shine Light on Regional Partnerships

Madison-Oneida BOCES continues to provide programming and operations support to the Oneida City School District as they recover from severe flooding and damage from a storm last month.
When Oneida had to cancel the final week of classes for all schools. MOBOCES opened its doors to students taking the Chemistry, Physics and Algebra II Regents, setting up classrooms in the Rossetti Education Center for testing. MOBOCES worked with Oneida and the State Education Department to secure replacement exams and ensure the space met test administration protocols.
After meeting that immediate need, MOBOCES staff have continued to work closely with Oneida leadership to provide ongoing support for summer programs, technology, communications and facilities.
Summer Programming
- Oneida High School had been designated as the site for this year’s Regional Academic Summer School, a BOCES program for students from all component districts. That program, which begins on July 8, is now being held at the Rossetti Center on the MOBOCES Main Campus.
- Later in the summer, a one-week summer program for Oneida middle school students will also relocate to Rossetti.
- Oneida’s Extended School Year program for special education students will now be held at the MOBOCES North Broad Street campus.
- Oneida is also offering Summer LEAP, an elementary summer enrichment program offered through MOBOCES. That program will now be held at VVS through a district-to-district partnership.
Technology
- The Mohawk Regional Information Center provided immediate assistance by providing business office staff with secure access to the district’s financial management system, allowing payroll and other functions to continue without interruption.
- MORIC also helped Oneida staff regain access to their student information systems so that student report cards could be finalized.
- MORIC continues to collaborate with the district’s IT department to transition network equipment and servers to the regional Network Operations Center (NOC), located on the MOBOCES Main Campus, and restore internet connectivity to school buildings.
Communication
The School Communication Service coordinated multiple media visits to the district to survey the damage and has supported leadership with extensive communication to families and community members about programming changes, operations needs, and safety issues. Team members have also continued to showcase cleanup efforts and spotlight the collaboration and flexibility of staff throughout the crisis.
Facilities
Our Facilities team sprung into action to prepare additional classrooms and spaces on the Main Campus to accommodate Oneida students for Regents exams and students from across the region for the six-week Academic Summer School. The team is working to ensure North Broad will be ready to accommodate Oneida’s summer program. They have also loaned equipment to the Oneida facilities team and have offered their expertise on repairs and replacments.
