A Summer of Learning

MOBOCES was full of learning this summer!
We recently wrapped up our six-week Extended School Year program and our six-week Academic Summer School, two programs we host annually to support students from across the region.
Extended School Year (ESY) helps many of our K-12 special education students remain engaged with their learning through fun, interactive skills development work. Both classroom-based and outdoor activities helped students build their academic, social, motor, and other key skills to help them in September.
More than 100 middle and high school students looking to recover course credits and boost their Regents scores attended our Regional Academic Summer School. Students from all component districts attended the program, hosted at MOBOCES this summer instead of Oneida.
MOBOCES also partnered with the Rome school district to host a special middle school program at Strough to support credit recovery, and with VVS to host Regents review sessions for all students from the region.
Beyond our campus:
- We helped run LEAP elementary enrichment programs in Madison, Rome and Canastota.
- We offered Driver Education courses for students in Camden, Canastota, Madison, Morrisville-Eaton, Stockbridge Valley and VVS.
- We partnered with Madison County to offer our annual Summer Youth Employment Program, which offers local teens an opportunity to complete park cleanups and other public works projects around the county while learning employment and personal finance skills. MOBOCES instructors lead the work site teams.
- Our School Library System awarded a grant to Madison to support their annual summer reading program for students and families.
