Student Board Members Learn About New Roles

Student board members from the MOBOCES region joined their superintendents, principals and school board clerks in Verona to participate in a statewide meeting about ex-officio student board members. The virtual meeting was led by the State Education Department and the NYS School Boards Association to provide details about the new student board member role. This is the first year that every school district and BOCES board in the state is required to have a student member.
From our region, students from Madison, Hamilton, Rome, Stockbridge Valley, VVS and MOBOCES attended the presentation on our campus, and students from other districts participated from their own schools. Following the state-led portion, MOBOCES Board Clerk Niki Maiura facilitated a Q&A session among the students, administrators and board clerks to help clarify and support the work they will do as ex-officio board members.
