NTHS Inducts Record Class

NTHS Inducts Record Class for 2023
Posted on 03/30/2023

More than 100 CTE students from the region joined the MOBOCES chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) during a formal induction ceremony on March 30 in the Vernon Verona Sherrill High School Auditorium.

The 129 students in this year’s induction class represented 19 CTE programs and 11 school districts. It is the largest cohort in the chapter’s history. The 2023 class also has the distinction of being the first class since 2019 to have an in-person induction ceremony.

NTHS is an honor society recognizing exceptional student achievement in career and technical education. To be eligible for membership, students must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average in their CTE program and their high school and demonstrate excellence in extracurricular activities, character and community service. NTHS membership is a distinction achieved by less than 5 percent of CTE students nationwide.

New members receive an official NTHS membership certificate, the NTHS pin, a graduation tassel, graduation honor cords and a window decal. An official NTHS seal will be applied to each member’s high school diploma upon graduating. The inductees will have the privilege of wearing their graduation cords at their CTE completion ceremony, and at their high school graduation.

The ceremony featured opening remarks from NTHS chapter advisor Rachel Helmer, Assistant Director of Secondary Programs Erin Noto, and Career and Technical Education Principal Molly LiBritz.

Student participation was a hallmark of the evening. Automotive Technology student Troy Anderson, of Camden, led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. Advanced Culinary Experience student Lauren Barker, of Hamilton, led her fellow students in the NTHS pledge.

Closing out the evening’s program was an address from MOBOCES Board of Education President Doug Gustin, of Canastota.
