Two MOBOCES students were recognized by the Oneida-Madison-Herkimer School Boards Institute with awards recognizing their academic and character excellence.

SBI formally recognized Equine and Animal Science junior Abbriana Albro, of VVS, and Skills Development junior Jerome Schwendeman, of Rome, in a virtual ceremony on May 19.

The annual awards recognize high school juniors who have overcome challenges to be successful in school, are active in extracurriculars and their community, and demonstrate strong character values.

Special Programs teacher Teri Burns nominated Jerome for his strong work ethic, initiative, responsibility and his overall positive contributions to his class.

“He recognizes that other students and his teachers depend on him, and he genuinely knows this is a reflection on himself, so he strives to do his best,” Burns wrote.

CTE teacher Katie Ragozzino nominated Abbriana for her work ethic, academic and technical success in the Equine program, and her positive character.

“She is helpful in the group, friendly with everyone and always ensures that the work gets done. She is kind to every single student in her class,” Ragozzino wrote.

Congratulations to this year’s winners!
