MOBOCES got into the holiday spirit this year by diving into a campus-wide initiative to build community, create a positive school climate and support others.

Take a look at our photo gallery below to see some of the activities, and find many more photos on Facebook and Twitter!

  • The STARRS program made and bagged sandwiches for the homeless to do their part to alleviate local hunger.
  • Fourth through sixth graders made ornaments and cards for patients under the care of local home health nurses. Students created snowflake and reindeer ornaments and put each in a package with a card. As the nurses visited their patients before Christmas, they hand-delivered the gifts.
  • Special Programs students created Kindness Trees at the beginning of the month and decorated the paper trees with paper ornaments describing kind acts they planned to complete before the holidays. These acts included donating to a food drive, holding the door for someone, and clean up without being asked. One group of students got together the week before break and made cards for area veterans receiving services through ClearPath for Veterans in Syracuse.
  • Alternative Education High School Leadership Team planned a holiday spirit week to help create a positive, engaging climate as students and staff prepared for winter break. Students planned themed days, encouraging their classmates to wear things like holiday socks and ugly sweaters on specific days during the week. On Friday before break, each classroom had holiday-themed projects and activities focused around acts of kindness. Some classes baked brownies and cookies for classmates, and others made and wrapped gifts for staff.
  • The Leadership Team held a holiday party with K-3 students in the building, treating them to snacks, crafts and a visit with Santa!
  • Our pre-k students around the region had their annual gingerbread house project this month. Parents and children worked together to build creations out of graham crackers, milk cartons, frosting and all the candy decorations they could get their hands on.
  • Career Exploration students held their annual holiday craft market, and CTE Carpentry students created their own market with handmade wooden gift.
  • Life Skills students had a chance to decorate sugar cookies!

Staff got in on the holidays too. Around campus, employees brought in donations of food, clothing, toiletries, baby items and gifts to create holiday boxes for MOBOCES students and families in need.

And they had a little fun on Ugly Sweater and Tie Day!
