Nine CTE Students Advance to SkillsUSA States
Posted on 02/16/2024

Congratulations to our 40 CTE students on their performance at last week’s SkillsUSA Regional Meet – and the nine who qualified for the state-level competition this spring!

This year’s MOBOCES team competed in 19 events that allowed them to demonstrate their industry skills and workplace readiness. Team members represented nine area high schools and 12 different CTE programs, and nearly a third of them were juniors.

SkillsUSA is an education-industry partnership that engages students in technical skills competitions and fosters leadership development. More than 60 different contests challenge students to put their career-focused skills training into practice.

More than 900 students from technical high schools and BOCES in the area participated in the regional competition at SUNY Morrisville. Those who finished in the top 3 places of their respective competitions qualify for states, held at the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse. From there, state winners can qualify for nationals in June.

The 9 seniors who qualified for states are:

  • Christina Mancuso and Jaycee Navoa (model), VVS, Cosmetology - Nail Care, 1st place
  • Michelle Barlett, Canastota, Graphic Design - Pin Design, 1st place
  • Demetrius Gadwaw, Rome, Graphic Design - Pin Design, 2nd place
